For instance, they might be specialists, master observers, chiefs, creators, or educators. As private people, specialists additionally accept nonprofessional jobs. They might be guardians, football trainers, customers, individuals from the PTA, companions, sexual accomplices, and innumerable other things. In their differing proficient and private limits advisors can contribute a lot to the general bliss of the networks where they live and work. At the point when an expert accept in any event one extra expert or individual job concerning similar customers, the relationship in this way framed is named a double or various job relationship. For instance, an educator may likewise be the chief of one of his understudies/assi stants, or an advocate may likewise be a client of a customer/owner. Double job connections may happen all the while or continuously (NASW, 1997, 1. 6. c). For instance, a specialist has a back to back double job relationship when she guides a previous sexual accomplice or a previous understudy. While not all double job connections are unscrupulous (can possibly make critical mischief customer or other), now and again the mixing of the directing job with certain individual jobs or with certain other expert jobs can produce genuine good issues. All through this paper this student will think about complexities of dangerous double job connections. The condition this student will concentrate on is schools and universities. Two contextual investigations will be introduced, one investigating some key issues of sexual relations with customers, the other investigating some key issues of non-sexual double job connections. This student will likewise apply the ACA code of morals all through thi s paper. Four arrangements of gauges with respect to moral administration of double job connections will be cited. Double ROLE RELATIONSHIPS INVOLVING CONFLICTS OF INTEREST Dual job connections are ethically hazardous when they include the advisor in an irreconcilable situation. As indicated by Davis and Stark ââ¬Å"a erson has an irreconcilable situation in the event that he is involved with at least one others requiring the activity of judgment for the others' sake yet has an extraordinary enthusiasm having a tendency to meddle with the best possible exercise of judgment in that relationship. â⬠For instance, a specialist's capacity to advise a customer might be antagonistically influenced if the advocate is likewise the customer's colleague. To the extent that a double job relationship debilitates the specialist's capacity to make decisions promotive of customer government assistance, the advisor has an ethical duty to maintain a strategic distance from such a relationship or to find a way to defend customer welfare. One conceivable way of managing a double job relationship including an irreconcilable situation is to illuminate the customer that the contention exists. Thusly, customers are treated as self-sufficient specialists with the ability to go somewhere else if and when they so pick. In any case, while such a methodology will accord with genuineness and thought for customer independence, it may not the only one determination the ethical issue. The potential for customer damage may even now continue in cases in which the customer chooses for stay with the relationship. Non-maleficenceââ¬Ã¢â¬Å"first do no harmâ⬠â⬠should then adopt priority.A further strategy targeting relieving potential for customer hurt is to make complete honesty to the customer and look for meeting and management in managing the contention (Corey & Herlihy, 1997). As indicated by Corey and Herlihy (1997), while this methodology might be more ââ¬Å"challeng ingâ⬠than evading double job connections inside and out, ââ¬Å"a eagerness to wrestle with the moral complexities of everyday practice is a sign of polished methodology. â⬠However, the customer's capacity to ââ¬Å"grappleâ⬠with the circumstance should likewise be taken into account. In circumstances where the advisor looks for counsel and management to manage an irreconcilable situation, authenticity necessitates that the specialist educate the customer regarding such. Albeit various customers may react diversely to revelation of this data, it ought to be viewed as what ramifications this plan may have from the customer's point of view. On the off chance that the specialist can't confide in himself (without oversight) to act working together with customer government assistance, will this antagonistically impact the customer's capacity to confide in the advisor in this or other situations? The minor presence of the double job relationship may itself present a snag f or the customer. For instance, seeing someone which the customer bargains for directing administrations, the customer may feel constrained to treat the advisor in a way that surpasses customary client desires. The customer's recognition may then be a higher priority than the truth. Regardless of whether the specialist prevails with regards to keeping up autonomy of judgment through conference and oversight, this may not make any difference if the customer doesn't see the circumstance along these lines or if the customer is in any case incapable to keep up objectivity. In a few circumstances, double job connections might be unavoidable. For instance, in a provincial area where there is just one rehearsing advisor and one bank, the specialist's credit official may likewise be the advisor's customer. In circumstances where maintaining a strategic distance from the double job is beyond the realm of imagination or not plausible, the advisor should then avoid potential risk, for example, e ducated assent, meeting, management, and documentation to make preparations for debilitated judgment and customer abuse (ACA, 1995, A. 6. a).Viewed in this light, specialists rehearsing under conditions where unavoidable double job connections are likely (for instance, in little country towns), have extra warrant for reaching other skillful experts ready to give conference or management upon demand. Ethically hazardous double job connections might be sexual or non-sexual in nature. Sexual double job connections remember ones for which specialists take part in sexual relations with current customers or with previous clients.Non-sexual double job connections incorporate (yet are not constrained to) ones in which the advisor is additionally the customer's administrator, colleague or partner, companion, representative, relative, or instructor. While these connections are frequently avoidable, their risky nature may go unnoticed. For instance, with an end goal to help a companion out of luck, a specialist may, with every single well meaning goal, disregard potential for customer hurt. Proficient and lawful measures overseeing sexual associations with current customers reliably deny such connections. Lawful assents may incorporate permit renouncement, common suits, and criminal arraignment (Anderson, 1996).According to The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics, ââ¬Å"counselors don't have any kind of sexual affections with customers and don't advise people with whom they have had a sexual relationshipâ⬠(A. 7. a). The National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics legitimizes its own denial against offering clinical types of assistance to previous sexual accomplices in light of the fact that such lead ââ¬Å"has the possibility to be unsafe to the individual and is probably going to make it hard for the social specialist and individual to keep up proper expert boundariesâ⬠(NASW, 1997, 1. 9. d) The potential mischief coming about because o f sexual exercises with customers has been reported. For instance, refering to the examination of Kenneth S. Pope (1988), Herlihy and Corey (1997) have noticed that mischief may take after that similar to survivors of assault, battery, kid misuse, and post horrible pressure. These impacts incorporate ââ¬Å"ambivalence, blame, void and seclusion, personality/limit/job disarray, sexual disarray, debilitated capacity to trust, enthusiastic obligation, stifled wrath, subjective brokenness, and expanded self-destructive riskâ⬠(p. 4). The preclusion against sexual exercises with current customers has likewise been stretched out to understudies and supervisees. For instance, as indicated by the American Psychological Association Ethical Standards, ââ¬Å"psychologists don't participate in sexual associations with understudies or supervisees in preparing over whom the therapist has evaluative or direct power, in light of the fact that such connections are so prone to debilitate judgm ent or be exploitative (1. 19. b).There is, nonetheless, less agreement on the topic of sex with previous customers. Albeit a few states genuinely see sex with previous customers as sexual unfortunate behavior, other state rules just as codes of morals make exemptions. For instance, Standard 4. 07 of the American Psychological Association Ethical Standards affirms the accompanying: a. Clinicians don't take part in sexual affections with a previous treatment patient or customer for in any event two years after end or end of expert administrations. . Since sexual affections with a previous treatment patient or customer are so as often as possible unsafe to the patient or customer, and in light of the fact that such affections subvert open trust in the brain research calling and consequently discourage the open's utilization of required administrations, analysts don't take part in sexual affections with previous treatment patients and customers considerably following a two-year span as ide from in the most uncommon circumstances. The clinician who takes part in such exercises after the two years following discontinuance or end of treatment bears the weight of showing that there has been no abuse, considering every important factor, including (1) the measure of time that has gone since treatment ended, (2) the nature and length of treatment, (3) the conditions of end, (4) the patient's or customer's very own history, (5) the patient's or customer's ebb and flow mental status, (6) the ikelihood of unfriendly effect on the patient or customer and others, and (7) any announcements or activities Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16549845635989615112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6928661827906347909.post-56431458460449325572020-08-22T05:54:00.001-07:002020-08-22T05:54:37.957-07:00Analysis The Study of Perfect Competition and Monopoly Free EssaysIn flawless rivalry, the market comprises of an immense number of purchasers and dealers and henceforth, a solitary purchaser or merchant, anyway huge, can not impact the market cost of an item by changing his own interest/gracefully of the item. All the organizations produce and sell homogeneous items. The items should be indistinguishable as far as quality, assortment, shading, plan, pressing, and other selling conditions at all. We will compose a custom article test on Investigation: The Study of Perfect Competition and Monopoly or on the other hand any comparable point just for you Request Now There are no hindrances to passage or exit in the market. Firms have total opportunity to move in or move out of any industry with no obstruction. The components of creation can be moved all through the market effectively and easily. Merchandise, administrations and work are flawlessly versatile among firms and customers. In an ideal serious market, purchasers and merchants should have ideal information about the overall economic situations. Firms don't need to bring about any expense on transportation of products starting with one piece of the market then onto the next. There are not really any Govt. intercessions in the matter of the homesteads. Because of every one of these components, in flawless rivalry, firms can just procure typical benefits From the previously mentioned attributes, it is without question that no such market can exist in reality. The supposition of enormous number of venders and item homogeneity infer that every single individual firm in flawless rivalry are value takers, the interest bend being vastly versatile which implies that organizations can sell any measure of item at the common cost. Productâ homogeneity is absolutely a ridiculous idea. There are consistently sure hindrances to passage and exit for the organizations in any market. Components of creation can not be splendidly portable among firms and transportation cost consistently exists in each market. ââ¬ËPerfect knowledgeââ¬â¢ never exists among all purchasers and venders and there is not really any market where the administration is without any capacity to control it. Immediate and roundabout charges are basic in all aspects of the world. Imposing business model Imposing business model, being the specific inverse of the splendidly serious market, comprises of just a single vender of an item. The items are not homogeneous in nature and subsequently, there is no nearby substitute for them. Additionally, boundaries of passage are high and the organizations can either fix the cost or control the flexibly of an item. A monopolist applies value separation (various costs are charged for a similar item from various clients); in this way gaining super-typical benefits. Unadulterated imposing business model is likewise uncommon in todayââ¬â¢s advertise structure. There are in every case some nearby substitutes for each item or administration. In this way while the National Railways might be named a restraining infrastructure, the Road Transport Corporation gives a nearby substitute to the administrations gave by the previous. Indeed, even a couple of decades back, in creating nations like India, the National Airlines and TV channel, Electricity Boards and so forth. However, with the globalization advancement act in 1992, an enormous number of private players from over the world entered the market and increased extensive piece of the pie. De Beers was considered as one of the best characteristic monopolist on the planet holding marginally under 90 percent of piece of the pie in the mid-1980s, yet at the same time it was not the single player in the precious stone market. In this manner, despite the fact that there might be sure markets which intently look like a few states of great and imposing business model rivalries, however considering the definition and qualities of both these two kinds of business sectors, it can undoubtedly be reasoned that the presence of such markets in the current age, is just an imaginary idea. The International Day of Climate Action was organized by nonprofit 350.org as part of its mission to keep the carbon in the atmosphere below 350 parts per million (ppm). As of 2019, atmospheric carbon is now at 415 ppm. 350.org has since adjusted their goal to ceasing further atmospheric carbon increase as quickly as possible and bringing the total back down to 350 ppm. That goal is going to require some major commitments from world and industry leaders. But you might as well do what you can to lower emissions as well â" especially if it can also save you money. Here are four ways you can cut down on daily expenses by making changes to the way you live, shop, and eat.Take up bikingPublic transit is a great way to get where you need to go, whether you use it every day as part of your morning commute, or only when you want to visit the fish at the aquarium. But even many large cities do not have effective public transit systems, and many people do not live in large cities.A car may be a requirement for your situation, but it can still be worth minimizing your auto use when you can.âRiding a bicycle is always the greenest option, saves money at the gas pump, and burns some of that unwanted body fat while keeping your heart running,â suggests B.C. Kowalski, founder of www.frugalwheels.com. âThe good news is you do not have to bike everywhere. I am a big fan of the two-mile principle â" start biking to destinations within two miles of your house, which nearly everyone can do. âBiking, if even only for short distances, can help to cut down on your gas use over time. But also remember, the more you use your car, the higher your risk of having to deal with costly repairs due to wear and tear.Click here for our post featuring tips on saving money with two wheels.Clean cleaning suppliesYou do not wan t to dirty the planet while cleaning your home. Highly specific cleaning products can also get quite pricey.Alberto Navarrete, general manager of Frisco Maids, suggests avoiding aerosol cleaning products â" basically products that come in a can. He also recommends taking cleaning matters into your own hands. âThere are always substitutes for these products that you can find or research online for a [do-it-yourself] solution â" usually at a fraction of the cost of the can spray product. This helps to reduce toxic waste that creates a greenhouse effect on the earth.âThe way you wash your clothes can also make a difference, from the temperature of the water to what you use for detergent.âSwitch to washing clothes in cold water,â says award-winning sustainability author Shel Horowitz. âHeating water is the most energy-intensive part of the laundry process,â which also makes doing your laundry more costly. There are many ways you can make an impact on your water bill whil e also helping the environment, but using cold water for washing is one of them.Using a detergent formulated for cold-water washing can help support your cold laundry efforts. Additionally, finding a reusable detergent solution can also help reduce costs while cutting down on packaging. âA non-detergent product such as the laundry ball we have used for almost three years, you can get the clothes plenty clean,â Horowitz said.Choose better bulbsLED bulbs use a fraction of the electricity of traditional light bulbs, which means less emissions and less money spent on replacing bulbs. LED bulbs are said to last for years, with their lifespan depending on how many hours you use them a day.âI figured out once that the owners of certain types of businesses could save six figures over the life of the bulbs by switching 50 bulbs in hard-to-reach locations,â Horowitz said. While a homeowner isnât likely to burn that type of energy or save that type of cash, switching your bulbs out c an help you save on utilities over time.Consider less meatLook, we love a good burger from time to time. We are not going to tell you to give up meat entirely. But lessening your meat consumption is not just good for the environment, it can have big benefits for your wallet and your arteries.âEating more plant-based meals is one of the easiest and most significant things people can do to lower their carbon footprint,â Horowitz says. âAnd now, with the recent arrival of much more convincing meat substitutes ⦠you do not have to give up the taste. I have been a vegetarian for 46 years, but even if you just cut back, it makes a huge difference.âOne factor to note: Not all meat substitutes are slimming for your wallet some of them can be rather pricey. However, sticking to a plant-based diet can be cheaper overall if approached responsibly.Adapt and start savingThe sooner you start adapting these sorts of habits, the better off your bank account will be, and you will be hel ping keep the planet more livable. Human Immunodeficiency Virus: Development of the C-C Chemokine Receptor 5 (CCR5) Antagonists as an Effective Treatment. Mathew Lane, B5550246, Mathew599@aol.com Department of Life, Health and Chemical Sciences, The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA, UK. Abstract The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) targets Leukocytes cells which express the CD4 receptor, they use Chemokine receptors (CCR5 most common one used) as a co-receptor to bind and fuse with the host cell. Preventing the entry of HIV into CD4 cells has lead to the development of a new type of antiretroviral drugs (ARVââ¬â¢s) called entry inhibitors. They are important in the immune systems response to infections and trauma. Proteolysis is the breakdown of protein chains into small polypeptides and amino acids; this is usually catalysed by enzymes such as protease. Chemotaxis involves the movement of cells in response to a chemical stimulus. This movement can be either towards or away from the source of the stimuli. Chemokines are chemotactic cytokines and are signalling molecules involved in chemotaxis. They are particular important in directing immune cells towards an area of infection. Since its outbreak the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which goes on to develop in to Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) has been reported in over 119 countries with 78 million people being infected resulting in over 39 million deaths. As of 2013 an estimated 0.8% of the worldââ¬â¢s population aged 15-49 are living with HIV, this varies dramatically for individual countries with it rising to 71% in sub-Saharan Africa [ ]. Even though Washington and DuBois stood on opposite sides of the fence they both agreed on one thing, that it was a time for a change in the treatment of African Americans. Washington publicly accepted without protest racial segregation and voting discrimination, but secretly financed and directed many court suits against such proscriptions of civil rights. To Washington his ideas was obvious and clear, by earning the respect of whites they would either help blacks or deal with their crime against humanity that will eventually bring them down. To me it is obvious why many whites agreed with Washington and many blacks disagreed with him. I agree with Washington by not demanding our rights because making demands would be met with opposition and nothing will be done that is necessary to bring blacks up to the equality line. On the contrary, I disagree with the way that Washington believed that blacks should just ignore how whites treated us with violence then turn around and try to earn their respect. The Optimal Capital structure is that Capital Structure at which the weighted Average cost of capital (Ko) is Minimum. It is that combination of Equity and Debt at which the total cost of capital is mini-mum. We will write a custom essay sample on Corporate Finance or any similar topic only for you Order Now Trade-off theory argues that thereââ¬â¢s an optimal amount of debt of each firm. At this level of debt, firms can take the most advantage of debts. Debts can be tax shield so that they can save money for firms to reinvest in other projects so as to earn more profits. However, debts can be quite dangerous because highly leveraged firms may face bankruptcy and financial distress costs (no matter theyââ¬â¢re direct or indirect) may increase the cost of debt of the company. Therefore, there must be a level of debt that make the benefits of debt and potential danger of debt offset each other. In another word, the marginal revenue of debt equals the marginal cost of debt. But remember, the real cases are not as easy as we put here. When a firm procures funds from investors or owners, there will be an explicit or implicit promise to pay return to them. The return is paid in terms of interest which is compulsory paid to all investors and owners, but the return paid to owners in the form of dividends is optional. The dividend decision by any firm, like the investment and financing decisions is also taken for maximization of market price of the share. The term dividend refers to that the portion of profit (after tax) which is distributed among own-ers/shareholders of the firm and the profit which is not distributed is called as retained earnings Dividend Payout Ratio is determined by the dividend policy adopted by the company, and it is im-plemented to decide about the percentage of profits to be distributed by the firm to its own-ers/shareholders. Dividend is always depends on the total profit that a firm acquired after taxes. There are a few factors that affect the Dividend policy of a company. They are Liquidity , Growth Plans and Control Dividend Payout Ratio is also called as DP Ratio which is a mathematical value as DP Ratio = Dividend paid to the Shareholders / Net Profit after tax. Capital Structural Theories Capital structural theories are designed with a concept of valuation of the firm; it is the earnings of the firm and the investments made by the firm. Capital Structural Theories also used to find the dividend pay-out for its owners/shareholders. Cost of the capital, investment and return on investment (ROI) are a part of dividend policy. The relationship between leverage cost of capital and the value of the firm can be analysed in different ways. Factors determining Capital Structure are minimization of risk, control, flexibility and the profitability of the firm. A firmââ¬â¢s capital structure is a combination of the firmââ¬â¢s liabilities (debts) and the assets (equity and profits). For Example: A firm with 100 billion as capital structure has 40 billion from equity (shareholders and owners) and the 60 million as debt (Loans and Funding), then the firm is said to be 40% ââ¬â equity fi-nanced and 60% ââ¬â debt financed. . Traditional Theories Net Operating Income (NOI) approach is just an opposite of NI approach. According to the NOI ap-proach, the market value of the firm depends upon the net operating income or profit and the overall cost of capital. NOI approach is based on the argument that the market values the firm as a whole for a given risk complexion. Thus, for a given value of the firm remain the same irrespective of the capital composition and instead on the overall cost of capital. Mathematically Net Operating Income (NOI) is Value of the Firm = Earnings before Tax / Cost of Equity Capital Net Operating Income approach says that an increase in debt proportion of the capital source will always result in increase of the equity proportion of the firm. Modigliani-Miller Model Modigliani-Miller model which was presented in the year of 1958 on the relationship of leverage, cost of capital and the value of the firm. This is widely used capital structure method to analyze the value of the firm. They have shown that the financial leverage doesnââ¬â¢t matter and the cost of capital and the value of the firm are independent of the capital structure. Modigliani-Miller methods show that there is nothing which may be called as Optimal Capital Structure ââ¬â to get high valuation of the firm. Modigliani-Miller model is based on following assumptions: 1. The capital markets are perfect and complete information is available to all the investors free of cost. The implication of this assumption is that investors can borrow and lend funds at the same rate and can move quickly from one security to another, 2. Securities are infinitely divisible; Investors are rational and well informed about the risk-return of all the securities. Modigliani-Miller model says that the total value of the firm is equal to the capitalized value of the operating earnings of the firm. The capitalization is to be made at a rate appropriate to the risk class of the firm. Growth Plans, are involved in capital structural theories in which a certain amount will be allocated for the growth plans. A finance manager should draw a plan according for the dividend policy. For Example: The firm has $10 million as equity capital and $6 million as debt capital and the firm made a profit (after tax) of $2 million, and the fund allocated to the growth plan was $1 million. For suppose there are 10,000 shareholders in the company and as per capital structural theories some amount will be allocated for the liquidity that is five hundred thousand and the remaining amount should be distributed as Dividends. In this case each shareholder or the owner will receive $50 as dividend. Capital structural theories say that if a firm is in profit and it is looking to expand the business, the profit can be rolled over to the investment option. In this case there will be no dividends or bonuses issued to the shareholders or the owners. For Example: Low-payout consequences, which is done when the cash gets accumulated the finan-cial manager may be tempted to take on more projects that do donââ¬â¢t meet the minimum rate of return investments. If a firm has $1 million as operating income with 1000 shareholders and firms adopts to take new projects with the profit. Then this may cause unrelated relationship balances between the share-holders and the management of the firm. Optimal Capital Structure: Even though Modigliani-Miller Model says that there is nothing like Opti-mal Capital Structure, but the non-traditional methods say that a firm can attain profits only by im-plementing Optimal Capital Structure. Some firms adopt this capital structure to minimize the risk, flexibility on the investments and the profitability. The finance manager should be able to identify that optimal point (profit point) for the firm precisely, but not to attempt to track the optimal range for the capital structure. Optimal Capital Structure differs from different firms, Existing Firm and a New Firm. For Example: Existing Firm may require additional capital funds for meeting the requirements of growth, expansion, and diversification or even for working capital management. The decision for a particular source of funds is to be taken in the totality of capital structure, i. e. n the light of the re-sultant capital structure after the proposed issue of capital or debt. The Capital Structure of the new firm is designed in the initial stages of the firm and the financial manager has to take care if many considerations, the present capital structure be designed in the light of a future target capital structure. Future plans, growth and diversifications strategies should be considered and factored in the analysis, so optimal ca pital structure greatly influences the divi-dend policy of any firm, depending upon there capital structure. Broadly speaking the dividend policy can be determined by two basic analyses required to find the valuation of the proposed capital structure of the firm, i. e. one from the point of view of profitability and another from view of liquidity. Capital structure will always determine the profits of the firm and the development of the firm. Equity and Debt capital are well managed by the capital structure of the firm. A well designed capital structure will have a very good impact on the dividend policy of the company. The two key approaches I will examine in this assignment is that of the early Classicalist approach, and the opposing Positivist approach, each of which are crucial for understanding modern criminology today. In the late eighteenth century Britain went through an Enlightenment period, which is also referred to as The Age of Reason (Paine, 1794) and this is because reason was emphasised over religion, secularisation transformed society, new ways of thinking were introduced which influenced the Classicalism theory. This approach was first developed by the Italian scholar Cesare Beccaria, who argued that it is very natural for humans to engage in deviant and criminal thoughts, and it is then an individuals choice whether they want to pursue these deviant thoughts, as ââ¬Å"man [is] a rational calculating animalâ⬠(Bentham, 1749) when it comes to crime. For instance if the potential gains and pleasure from illegal acts outweigh the potential pains of punishment the crime will be committed. It is through rational thoughts and free-will whether an individual chooses to fulfil illegal activities. Beccaria had a simple conclusion, which was to make the crime harder to commit, and this had several elements to it. Firstly, crime can be controlled by the fear of punishment, thus crime that is perceived to be severe and certain will deter criminal behaviour (Siegal, 2010) therefore crimes should be harder to commit and the punishment should fit the crime. Another key thinker of this theory was Jeremy Bentham, also believed in this idea of utilitarianism he sought to reform the prisons in England. He was very critical of the criminal justice system of the eighteenth century England, as the death penalty was the punishment for hundreds of crimes. For instance, minor crimes such as stealing were punishable by death, as well as committing an act of murder itself. Bentham then invented his idea of the perfect prison, the panopticon. This was a model prison where all prisonersà where observed at all times by unseen guards. The Classicalist approach involves the punishments being just and reasonable, however still being able to deter individuals. This approach has been criticised by numerous theorists for many reasons. To begin with, despite this continuing change of the punishments towards offenders, from the earliest codes of public executions, towards a more subtle reformation and rehabilitation scheme, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 mirrors this idea, murder rates have not significantly changed. Also this theory emphasises much on rational thinking and freewill, however it is debated that we do not always behave in our best interest, there are times when individuals are intoxicated by alcohol so are not as conscious of their activities. Moreover, there are crimes which entails the offender gaining no rewards, and also victimless crimes illustrate that not all crimes and punishments are just. Theorists then sought to figure out another alternative way for understanding the commission of crime, as many began to doubt this theory that crime was a simple characteristic of the human nature. In the nineteenth century the Positivist approach was introduced, which brought a whole new way of thinking about criminals and certain crimes that they committed. This approach is often simplified to be the science of religion because it tackles the natural science approach when undertaking its methodology. The founder of this theory was Ceseare Lombroso, who claimed he had discovered the causes of crime. He concluded that the criminal man was physically different to normal people arguing that they had physical stigmata, abnormal attributes to their skull and jaw. Lombroso opposed the earlier classicalist thinking, as he believed that criminals were born different, crime was inevitable for them as they had specific traits in their biology, it was not out of free-will and and rational thinking why criminals commit crimes as the Classicalist approach would suggest. After 3000 anthropometric measurements he found some biological traits of criminals, and then argued that criminals could be visibly distinguished by their physical characteristics which included: high cheek bones, flattened or turned up nose and a low sloping forehead (Lombroso, 1876). After the intense research of his, he was able to identify distinct types of criminals ââ¬â the born criminals who are biologically different from the law abiderââ¬â¢s because they have not evolved properly, then there are the epileptics and insane criminals who are also abnormal humans however not born so, then lastly followed by the criminaloids who were occasional criminals, and also not born so. Ceseare Lombroso has said to be the founding father of modern criminology because of his unique ways of thinking about the commission of crime; today his work is still credited by many due to his specific reasoning. However the Positivist approach and theory if Lombroso has also been heavily criticised because of its simplistic views and very problematic categories. This approach is very deterministic, because it implies that all behaviour is predetermined, criminal identities are ascribed to individuals before they are even born, as Lomobroso argues that a criminal gene is inherited. The current understanding of individuals show that there are more important social factors that determine whether or not someone may choose to commit crime. It has been proven that some people do have an extra male chromosome, resulting in them being prone to aggression and more incline to criminal behaviour; this is known as the XYY syndrome. (Farrell) However, it is not every individual that has this extra Y chromosome that commits crimes, and Lombroso fails to recognise this. To summarise the two approaches I have discussed do have a great understanding of the commission of crime, however each are flawed. The two have made great individual logic and biological pathways, and have helped to shape society today. The author shows that the priest was responsible for administering Christian community in Japan. However, the author raises the themes of religious intolerance and discrimination showing that main hero suffered from religious prosecution by Japanese authorities. Also the author explores eternal themes of despair, apostasy, faith, martyrdom, redemption and religious sin. The book, thus, can be considered profound exploration of Incarnation logic. Actually, the author tends to show that Godââ¬â¢s journey from Heaven isnââ¬â¢t paid proper attention and Godââ¬â¢s omnipotence is contradicted. One more theme is heroââ¬â¢s personal struggle as Christian in Japan meaning that the author explores the paradox of a crucified God. Speaking about interesting moment it is necessary to explain the meaning of the bookââ¬â¢s title ââ¬â Silence. Endo assumes that Silence symbolizes strangeness of Christââ¬â¢s death and incarnation. The author shows that Rodriguez is rather concerned with Godââ¬â¢s silence. He canââ¬â¢t understand why God prefers to keep silence when seeing human agony and suffering. Firstly the hero thinks the God is simply sitting and doing nothing: his arms are folded. Rodriguez claims that God remains indifferent when simple and innocent people in Godââ¬â¢s name. Nevertheless, the author shows that Rodriguez in such a way is tempted to apostatize with the purpose to save peasant because he asserts that God wonââ¬â¢t help and save them. Finally, Godââ¬â¢s silence leads to the fact that the pres loses faith in God. Nonetheless, the author points out that sometime Rodriguez hears that God breaks the silence. It is suggested that it is merely Rodriguez imagination. He imagine s that Christ speaks to him from the fumie: ââ¬Å"Trample! It was to be trampled on by men that I was born into this world. It was to share mens pain that I carried my crossâ⬠. In such a way God has responded to the misery and suffering of humans by giving the Word. For example, colombianoà is the word for a male hailing from Colombia and bolivianaà is the word for a female from Bolivia. An interesting distinction that varies from English to Spanish is that words used for nationalities are not capitalized in Spanish. Nationalities Can Be Nouns or Adjectives As in English, the wordsà for nationalities can be used in Spanish as either adjectives or nouns. An example of the adjective form is I want a Frenchà coffee or Yo quieroà un cafà © francà ©s. An example of the noun form is He is an Italian or Ãâ°là es italiano. Who You Are Addressing Usually Matters In Spanish, nouns, and adjectives usually, have a masculine form and a feminine form depending if the person being referenced is male or female. The masculine form is usually used to refer to more than one person of unknown gender. For example, They are American would be translated as Ellos son americanos, which is the masculine plural form. A majority of nationalities end in -o.The feminine form for nationalities ending in -o is made by changing the -o to an -a. For example, the word griego, for a person from Greece, changes to griega when referencing a female. Another common ending for nationalities isà -à ©s. Words ending in -à ©sà can be made feminine by changing the ending to -esa. Thus the feminine form of inglà ©s,à for someone or somethingà from England, is inglesa. A Few Nationalities Do Not Change with Gender There are some nationalities that do not change form with gender. Nationalities that have irregular endings, such as -ense, as in theà wordà costarricense, used for Costa Rican, do not have a separate masculine or feminine form. The word remains the same when describing either gender. The same can be said forà nationalities that end in -a. These do not change, such asà croataà for Croatian, orà belgaà for Belgian. The following sampling of 60 countries is listed with the masculine form of the nationality. Use the masculine and feminine rules to change the word depending on the person being addressed and the endings of the nationalities that are given. Related Grammar Rules Plural nouns and adjectives for nationalities follow the regularà rules for plurals., typically by adding anà -sà orà -es. The names of most countries as well as provinces, states, and regions is masculine. The main exceptions are those whose names end in an unstressed -a, such as Francia, Argentina, and Gran Bretaà ±a. Canad, which ends in a stressed -, is masculine. A few country names, the biggest of them being la India, cant stand alone and need the definite article. At this point the following issue has appeared: should the use of social networking sites be free from limitations or not? Six academic studies have been identified and are presented below for showing that social networking sites are valuable in terms of communication and exchange of information, both at individual and at business level, but their use should be set under monitoring so that the privacy of users is not threatened. Lewis (2010) explored the role of social media in a particular business sector: public relations. He found that for the specific sector the use of social media is quite important, at the level that public relations practitioners consider social media as a unique tool of communication (Lewis 1). However, this role of social media may not be clear to their users. For example, the research developed by Lewis proved that the individuals who study public relation s are not aware, at least not fully, of the potential value of social media in public relations (Lewis 17). It should be noted that most of the participants were proved to be heavy users of social networking sites (Lewis 17). ... These people, even if they do not state it clearly, prefer communication than trust; such view is verified by the fact that the existence of trust among millions of people who are unknown to each other is not feasible (Dwyer, Hiltz and Passerini 2). In the survey conducted among the members of two, popular, social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace it was revealed that the members of Facebook feel that their privacy is protected at higher level than the members of MySpace (Dwyer, Hiltz and Passerini 5). In other words, privacy in social networking sites can be protected, at least up to a level, even if the members of these sites actually set ââ¬Ëthe development of new relationships and the exchange of informationââ¬â¢ (Dwyer, Hiltz and Passerini 3) as priorities. The above studies verify the first of this studyââ¬â¢s hypothesis, i.e. that social networking sites are quite popular as tools of communication and for promoting business activities. The second of the ab ove studies reveals a critical fact: the involvement of social networking sites in privacy risks does not seem to discourage the users of these sites. The privacy risks related to the use of social networking sites are further analyzed below. Zilpelwar et al. (2012) highlight the popularity and the risks of social networking sites. This pleasure applies to the infant, the masochist, and the film spectator as well. (Studlar 782) How does Studlars work on fetishism and masochism challenge Mulveys theory of the male gaze? Discuss in relation to films from classical era and contemporary cinema. Refer to film screened in this unit and films of your choice, with attention to mise-en-scene and narrative structure. Studlar challenges Mulveys theories on the male scopic pleasure as the bearer of control. Studlar also challenges Mulveys statement of the female as lack and instead suggests a sense of power from this lack; the female as a film complexity, being not necessarily the subject of the male gaze but rather the holder of the gaze. Firsly, I will discuss Mulveys theories and Studlars challenges, and compare and contrast the two. After discussing both theories in relation to one another, I will then call on examples from classic and contemporary cinema to justify my arguments and discuss the trends of Contemporary cinema with regards to psychoanalysis. In article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema, Mulvey argues in mainstream cinema, in relation to patriarchal society, women are being portrayed as an erotic object to be looked at in movies as well as an attraction to male gaze. Her theory explains that women are playing passive part in movies while men hold the strong and active character and play as a prominent subject. Therefore, Mulveys theory on male gaze is determined as a sexual pleasure in which male are able to obtain by looking at portrayal of female. (Laura Mulvey (1975). Visual pleasure and Narrative Cinema, in Gerald Mast, Cohen Baudry (eds). Film Theory: An Introduction. 5th ed, pp 746-757. Objectification of women in classical era and contemporary cinema as erotic and sensual figure is still applied. Mulveys work in this theory has been supported by feminist theory; it can be seen in the following quote from literary critics standpoint: In 1975, when Laura Mulvey published her groundbreaking study of woman in film her position as a signifier for the male other, as a projection of male fantasies, and, finally, as a bearer not maker of meaning she gave new shape and direction to the interdisciplinary field of womens studies, motivating scholars in many subject areas to examine and, most interestingly, re-examine the political, cultural, social and literary achievements of women through the ages (Despotopoulou, 569). (Despotopoulou, Anna. Fannys Gaze and the Construction of Feminine Space in Mansfield Park Modern Language Review 99 (2004): 569-583) Films such as The War of the Worlds (1953), The Thing from Another World (1951) give close to no female role/s who take part in advancing the narrative. But that is not to say that all films painted women as an indispensible element of spectacle (Mulvey 750). For example the 1939 film The Women by Metroà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã Goldwyn Mayer Productions is notable for its allà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã female cast. Although the content of the film could be argued, this is a clear example of women controlling the film narrative. Furthermore, her theory of male gaze can be seen in film Fifth Element. The character Leelo which is played by Milla Jovovich in the movie portrayed her as passive object erotic to be looked at. In mise-en-scene and narrative term, it can be shown that her character was touted as the Supreme Being and regarded as the ultimate weapon to counteract the attack from the evil being harming the world. However, the Supreme Being is also subjected to objectification with repetitive display of her breasts, body and being gazed by the casts (which, in effect, also enables its spectators to look at her in an erotic manner). While she is labeled as the Supreme Being, she certainly looked inferior, weak and vulnerable to Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis). Korben was the one who rescued her after being shot in the air duct. Mulvey argues women are regarded as fetishistic display for male viewers pleasure and the spectators embodies the subject (the active role), while the narrative film stands for the object which is the passive position (Carolina Hein, 2006, p. 4). Her concept of to-be-looked-at-ness, exemplifies that women were simply shown on screen in classic Hollywood in order to provide men with visual pleasure and have an erotic impact. Mulvey argues that the distinctive key protagonist within a classic Hollywood film was male and the audience members where similarly typically expected to be men. In classical era as well as contemporary cinema, women are generally passive characters who looked to males for protection and rescue. Gaylyn Studlars theory of Masochism and Perverse Pleasure refutes Laura Mulveys theory of Male gaze. According to Studlar, the viewing pleasure are transmitted to the spectators is derived from total submission to the female. Her theory believes that by using masochism, women are portrayed as idealized power figure, which are both dangerous and comforting, not such as discarded object (Studlar, 1985) (Gaylyn Studlar (1985) Masochism and the perverse pleasure of the Cinema, in Gerald Mast, Cohen Baudry (eds). Film Theory: An Introduction. 5th ed, pp 773-790). In my point of view, Studlars theory of masochism enables bisexual dualism. It means this theory creates an ability of freeing up gendered subjectivity to spectators in mainstream cinema. It technically enables viewer to see both genders, male and female as powerful object. Moreover, this theory confirms the conventional perception of womens incapacity, means that it can influence and change peoples perspective towards woman as being lack and weak. In classical era, movie like Alien (1979) exemplifies women as powerful character. The female character Ellen Ripley leads strong, independent and professional women character. In Alien, Ripley is the strong female character who makes active judgments and survives what is trying to kill her. The male characters activity is largely passive most die quickly, others wait for her command. It is Ripley who makes the plan to defeat the alien which works, while the powerless male Captain makes bad judgments as his unsure plan fails. (Movie analysis: Women in horror films: Ripley, the alien, and the monstrous feminine by Daniel Stephen, http://www.helium.com/items/132886-women-in-horror-films-ripley-the-alien-and-the-monstrous-feminine). Studlars theory in submissive masculine look term, the masculinity factors which are men supposed to portray is symbolized through women character. Instead of being passive character in the movie, Ripley plays as an active and protagonist character which is the opposite of Mulveys theory of male gaze. Ripley holds the gaze from the beginning of the movie until the end of it. One of the final scenes of the film takes place in an escape pod where singleà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã handed, Ripley manages to overpower the invading alien. Ripley is shown as a character that is able to complete tasks that men were otherwise unable to complete. Likewise, Aliens representation of feminism shows women as alien to themselves (Jeffords 74). Jeffords, Susan. Battle of the Big Mommas: Feminism and Alienation. Journal of American Culture 10.3 (1987): 74. This portrayal of women releases the character of Ripley and eventually feminism. Ripley is shown as a Company Woman, reaffirmed at the end of the film when despite The Companys betrayal of herself and the entire crew, [she] disposes of the alien only to sit down and complete her captains log (Newton 297). Newton, Judith. Feminism and Anxiety in Alien in Symposium on Alien. Science Fiction Studies 7. Ed. Charles Elkins. 1980. 297. Her place in this Company Creates the questioning of her position in a patriarchal society. Another example of Studlars theory in contemporary cinema is Disney movie called Mulan. First of all, the requirement. In America we need a lot of things to apply to colleges, such as GAP SAT Recommendations essays and all sorts of things that can reflect you as a person. In china all we need is to take one entrance exam, called okay, which takes place once a year. It includes four subjects, math, Chinese, English, science. Each college has a particular score you have to get on that test in order to get in. K Advantages. In china, the system Is fair because everyone will be taking the same test. No matter who you are, you score will be based only on how well you did on that test. And whether you can get in colleges or not Is based solely on that score you get. So everyone has the same chance. In America, students are valued based on overall qualities, so whether we can get In college or not Is based on our abilities as a person rather than as a student. Also since we stude nts are valued on so many things, we eave more opportunities to make our profiles look stronger, as opposed to that In china, where we only have one chance for that test. K now lets talk about disadvantages. In china, to prepare for the entrance test Is very time-consuming. It usually takes three years to prepare for that test. Also the fact that It takes place only once a year makes It harder and more overwhelming. The disadvantage In America Is Its nontransparent, for there Is really no uniform standard of acceptance. We do not really how the decisions are made by admissions There are different causes behind each system. In china, the population Is large, so colleges do not have the split to get to know each of the students Like the way American colleges do. Also since almost all colleges are public colleges In china, we need to a uniform standard to everyone. In America, people come from diverse cultures, so It Is necessary to get to know each student. Also since most colleges are private-owned In America, the admissions have the absolute right to make decisions. K Advantages. People have been told forever that their dreams and ambitions were impossible; this has inspired greatness and made the world what it is today. Everyone that has achieved anything great has been told that their idea was impossible. Daymond John, like all successful entrepreneurs, inspired me by defying the odds of his time and never listening to the word impossible. Daymond John is the CEO and Founder of the world recognized clothing company FIJBU.He is from Queens, New York and from an era that was all about defying what the world's version of ââ¬Å"impossibleâ⬠was for him. He is a 44 year old African American that started a clothing company out of his house that has become a 317 million dollar company that has taken on the world and defied everyone that said his dreams were impossible. From a young age the word impossible is something I have always loved to defy I grew up in Ro ckwood Oregon and went to Reynolds Middle school where the majority of my friends and kids were apart of gangs and doing drugs. My teachers told me I was not smart enough to get out the there and that I would end up like everyone else eventually. My parents moved me to the opposite part of town where I kept my mentality that my dreams and aspirations were going to be impossible. Until a teacher I hated told me I was not going to be anything and I was determined to change my life eventually I Joined the United States Army. Before Joining the army I was told that I would not make it because of the physical demands they were going to ask of me and I was too defiant.I was determined to prove everyone wrong in four years I became a SGT and got over a 300 on my physical aptitude test also shot an expert after every qualification. The word impossible became my potential. I thrived in high stress environments. Even though from a young age I have been told that most of my ambitions were impos sible. I never believed them. My Father told me a story when I was growing up that his dad always told him: he wasâ⬠living in a fantasy landâ⬠when my Father would alk about robots in the future. Now days my Father is a head engineer for Intel and works on robots all day. When my Father tells me my dreams are impossible I tell him ââ¬Å"l am Just living in a fantasy land and want to show the world what is in it. â⬠My interpretation stands that nothing is impossible if I am willing to put in the work to prove to the world, but most importantly myself, that I am able to do whatever I put my mind to.At the times when I find myself questioning if I am going to be able to omplete my dreams and if the word impossible is going to finally defeat me, I remember a quote by Muhammad Ali that one of my Drill Sergeants told me to remember: ââ¬Å"Impossible is Just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world theyVe been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing. ââ¬Å"- Muhammad Ali Impossible By dougwilliamsmp Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16549845635989615112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6928661827906347909.post-21580622331298925012020-01-02T08:10:00.001-08:002020-01-02T08:10:04.065-08:00Vesuvio - 1708 Words Previous notes about case This report is about the Vesuvio Fonderia Company which was founded by the Lombardi family in 1912 and which is specialized in the production of precision metal castings for the aeronautics, automobile, and construction industry. This company was a very important one in Italy which can be verified by the fact that it had been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange Market (1991). The main questions for the company to face are related to: ââ" ª Working with semi-automatic machines which have 6 years of usage. The new ones are highly automated and promise a higher expected life (8 years); ââ" ª In terms of work quality the old machines are less productive combined with a lack of consistency. In contrast,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In both cases we would recommend the company to invest in the new Bond-O-Matic molding machine with a cost of capital of 17%. If we were assuming that the old semi-automated machines would still be working after 6 years and guaranteeing an operating life of 8 years, then we just had to compare the Net Present Values of both projects. In this case we only had to choose the less negative one because our calculation only contains the costs of both projects. On the other hand, if we were assuming that after six years we would have to buy new machines we must use the equivalent annual annuity approach because of the projects different time horizons. Either way we recommend the company to invest in the new Bond-O-Matic molding machine because that decision always provides the highest Net Present Value compared to its alternative. 5- Is there a problem of unequal lives? Who can you deal with it? In our case the Vesuvio Fonderia has to choose one out of two mutually exclusive projects. Either the company invests in a new Bond-O-Matic molding machine which needs to be replaced after eight years or they keep on working with their six old semi-automated ones. Those machines would probably need to be replaced after six years. Answer: Business Model Innovation Paragraph 1: The BMI (business model innovation) contains two essential elements value proposition and the operating model (Massa and Tucci 2013). The value proposition discusses about business model that who are the group of customers? It refers explicit choice in three dimensions as follows: Target customer: this is to define the group of customer whom the business would serve and to identify their needs. Service or product offering: It states the business offering to the customer to satisfy the customer needs Revenue Model: It states how the company is compensated for the offerings they provide to the customer The operating model discusses how to gain profit from the customer by delivering the offerings and choice of the business depending on certain criterias like Value chain: What is the status of the business to satisfy the demand of the customer, what operations are followed in the business organization, which components are outsourced and their needs to outsourcing the elements? Cost model: It defines the configuration of the current asset of the company and the costs required for the delivery of its value to gain profit (Gobble 2014). Organization: It states the method to develop and deploy the people in the organization to endure and advance competitive advantage over other companies The BMI is valuable when the business organization is in instability, the business model innovation can give an organization the best approach to break out exceptional rivalry under which item or procedure development is restricted effortlessly, technique of the contenders are joined and the supported preferred standpoint is tricky. Paragraph 2: The Business Model Innovation can address disturbance, for example, administrative or mechanical movements that interest on a very basic level of new aggressive methodologies. Unverifiable interest is a test that all organizations confront and in most of the cases they are the main source of the risk. One approach to lessen that danger is to roll out improvements to the organization's blend of items or administrations (Casadesusà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã Masanell and Zhu 2013). In account, if the organization have two portfolios offering a 20% return, it ought to pick the less unsafe one, since it will make more esteem after some time (Massa and Tucci 2013). The same is valid with item portfolios. Organizations looking to recalibrate their item or administration blend have basically three choices: Uncover new opportunities: The current business model need to be diagnosed and the limitations and the opportunities of the company should be identified. Implementation of the new model: The successful business organizations whose main reason for success is the innovation of the new model are not the innovator of the business model (Amit and Zott 2012). They are the first to implement the business model successfully with the application of new ideas Creating new platform skills: It is the process of building a new platform for the management of the business model innovation process. Week 5: CAGE Framework Paragraph 1: The CAGE Framework combines the Cultural, Administrative, Geographic and Economic distances of the companies and the countries (Moalla and Mayrhofer 2014). Pankaj Ghemawat is the person who built up the CAGE structure. CAGE framework is a great apparatus for affiliations and organizations hoping to create global methodologies (Ghemawat 2013). Effortlessly survey the potential size, dangers, and hindrances to various universal markets; take out the mystery of picking which nations to enter in which request; Identify current items most effectively and transportable at least cost; and develop new items exceptional to worldwide endeavors (Motohashi 2015). The analysis of the CAGE framework distinguishes the center ground between the one-size-fits-all and the mass-customization extremes that encapsulate most worldwide business sector methodologies and item advancement endeavors. The administrative dimension identifies the physical transportation distance and increase in the cost, remotene ss and the geographical diversity of the country, weakness of transportation or failure in communication and problem faced in internal navigation (Jain 2016). The geographical dimension affects the organizations related with production of perishable or fragile products and that have low bulk ratio or value. The products also requires good connectivity and communication between the supervisors and operational requirements. To apply the CAGE system in an organization there should be recognizable proof of the areas that offer low crude material costs, access to business sectors or customers, or other key choice criteria (Motohashi 2015). It could be resolved that the business association is keen on business sectors with solid customer purchasing power, so it would utilize per capita salary as the principal sorting model. Accordingly, it would likely wind up with some kind of positioning in the current market scenario. Paragraph 2: Walmart being a huge company and having business worldwide it have problems regarding its business abroad. Walmart gains more profit in its home country than other countries, so it need to find the problem in its business to have equity in their business (Jain 2016). Thus the CAGE framework is applied on Walmart to resolve the business issues related with Walmart. The CAGE framework underlines that the distance acts as the critical element to influence the economy and competition of the business (Motohashi 2015). The CAGE framework can help the business organization to identify the differences in their business. In the report Walmart has been identified and application of CAGE framework in their business process would benefit the companys current growth (Ghemawat 2013). The cultural, administrative, geographical and economical barriers of the company can be mitigated implementing the CAGE framework in the current business process of the company. Social environment is an immediate environment that acts as a mirror for the people to perceive themselves relative to others. The dominant factor in the social environment that significantly affects our perception is the social class that has set virtual boundaries for the people to socialize within certain limits.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Perception of Others and Ourselves specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Dominant social classes provide benchmarks for others to tirelessly struggle to achieve perceived social status. In the essay ââ¬ËNo Cats in Americaââ¬â¢, a student perceives that America is the land of bliss and without any problem. Moreover, ââ¬ËMasksââ¬â¢ is an essay that depicts beautiful girl with a wonderful family that leaves other students admiring her social stature at school. The essays depict how social classes of these students influence their perception of others and themselves at the school and in the society. Hughes and Zanden argue that, ââ¬Å"the essence of the sociological imagination is the ability to see our private experiences and personal difficulties as entwined with the structural arrangements of our society and the times in which we live,â⬠(2). Social class is a social construct that classify and fit people into their respective social levels depending on the dominant perceptions of varied social environments. Therefore, how does social class influence our perception of others and ourselves in the society? ââ¬ËNo Cats in Americaââ¬â¢ In this essay, after a student watched a movie ââ¬Ëthere are not cats in Americaââ¬â¢ and having learned about the American dream, the student realized that Amer ica is the land of happiness and free from any lifeââ¬â¢s problems. Seeing that many Russians have gone to America in search of better life, the student who is a Philippine began longing to be in the land of happiness and equality according to the American dream. Fortunately, his father gets a job in California and he realizes his wish of being in America. Shifting to America, he is utterly surprised to note that his cultural and racial identity puts him at disadvantaged social position because at school, students mock and ridicule him. On the first day at school, other students laughed at him when he introduces himself. The students laughed at him because his English accent differs with American accent yet he is proficient in English for he had learned in Philippines. Moreover, during lunchtime, girls desert his table because of his strange menu and eating habits. He narrates that, ââ¬Å"in Philippine, the only way to eat fish and rice is with hands â⬠¦ my manners were prim itive here in America, I was embarrassed at the smell, was embarrassed at the way I ate, was embarrassed to be meâ⬠(Ramage, Bean, and Johnson 168). He eventually realizes that ââ¬Ëthere are cats in Americaââ¬â¢ for negative social perception and interaction severely affect his studies.Advertising Looking for essay on rhetoric? Narrator describes her beauty comparatively and concludes that it is matchless in the entire school. ââ¬Å"Today, she wore a pink dress with frills and lace and impeccably white tights. Her feet, which swayed back and forth underneath her chair, were pampered with shiny, black shoes without a single scuff â⬠¦ wise, sophisticated beyond her kindergarten yearsâ⬠(Ramage, Bean, and Johnson 169). The narrator a dmits that her beauty and elegance attracts great deal of envy from other students and particularly her to the extent that she emulates her form of dressing, hairstyle and painting. The beautiful girl paints an elegant drawing of a superb house and classy fence, which reflects her social status and beauty as well. Her mother loves her very much and always congratulates her for the little and great things she does. In contrast, other students had to paint something that closely resembles her painting as an effort of achieving her status of beauty and elegance. Unfortunately, the narrator realizes that her beauty and elegance is just but a mask because she is very dependent socially. Moreover, she depends upon other students when doing her algebra assignment. Analysis Social class is significant social factor that determines how people perceive social environment relative to themselves in the society with economic inequality and cultural diversity. In the essay ââ¬ËNo Cats in Ameri caââ¬â¢, the student perceives that America is a land of happiness and equality unlike Philippines or Russian where people suffer due to constant problems in life that make life unbearable. He longs to live in America because he perceives that America is the best place to live on earth. Comparatively, he thought that social class of America is better than that of Philippines and Russian, hence he perceives that Americans are great people. Emerson argues that, ââ¬Å"our perceptions are always partial and subjective â⬠¦they are partial because we cannot perceive everything; and they are subjective because they are influenced by factors such as culture, physiology, roles, standpoint, and cognitive abilitiesâ⬠(22). Thus, perception of America and Americans having higher social class gives him a false perception that he later discover that ââ¬Ëthere are also cats in Americaââ¬â¢ like others in Russia and Philippines.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Perception of Others and Ourselves specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More After going to America, his perception about America and Americans changes due to social class and cultural differences that portray him as a primitive student with poor education and bad eating habits. Although he perceives himself as a potential student who can equally compete anyone in class, his grades gradually goes down due to social class influence. The Americans students perceive him as a primitive student, which in turn leads him to believe that he is indeed primitive and began performing poorly in class. Humiliating experiences leads him to confess that, ââ¬Å"I hate being Filipino! Silence filled the room, teardrops rolled down my cheeks, my parents were shocked, and so I wasâ⬠(Ramage, Bean, and Johnson 168). He cries because the American dream influences her life negatively for he performs poorly in class because other students mocks and ridicul es his abilities. In the ââ¬ËMasksââ¬â¢ essay, the students perceive that the beautiful and elegant girl is very intelligent and sophisticated in class. Since she comes from an affluent family that gives her all that she wants, she is at higher social class relative to other students, thus she sets the benchmark for admiration and envy. Her social stature gives wrong impression to the classmates that she is not only a beauty model but also an educational model that everyone should admire and envy. Her friends try all means to emulate her dressing code, follow her hairstyle and copy her paintings for they perceive that she is the smartest of them all in the class and school just because of her social status. Knowing that no one matches her beauty and elegance status, she had great opinion of herself for she ridicules her friends whenever she feels they are trying to give her competition at school. Smith asserts that, ââ¬Å"people who have anxious or ambivalent attachment style s often are preoccupied with relationships and perceive others in unpredictable waysâ⬠(12). The girl perceives others as inferior and tries all means to secure her social position even though she performs poorly in algebra. With time, the students realize that they have a false perception of her since she cannot do algebra assignment on her own and that she is very dependent on others for complements of her beauty, unlike them who work independently. The narrator ultimately admits that, ââ¬Å"I then, realized her cheerleader outfit, her golden locks, her smile were all a mask. Take them away and nothing but air would remain. Her friends and their adoration were her identity. Without them she was alone and vulnerableâ⬠(Ramage, Bean, and Johnson 171). Her social class and identity masked and falsely magnified her abilities as student. Thus, social class influences our perception of others and ourselves in the society of economic inequality and cultural diversity.Advertisi ng Looking for essay on rhetoric? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Conclusion Ultimately, basing on the two essays, ââ¬ËNo Cats in Americaââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËMasksââ¬â¢, they portray how social class influence our perception of others and ourselves. In the first essay, the student perceives the American students to be of high social class and very intelligent while perceiving himself as inferior. Such perception negatively affects his studies making him to perform very poorly. In the second essay, a beautiful girl from an affluent family perceives others are inferior and thus she always ridicules others. Other students regard her as an intelligent and smart student to the extent that they emulate her dressing code, hairstyle and painting, yet she was very weak in algebra. Thus, social class can give us false perception of others and ourselves in the society. Works Cited Emerson, Ralph. Perception and Communication. New York: Wadsworth Publisher, 2008. In 1815, Monaco became a protectorate of Sardinia under the Treaty of Vienna. It remained a protectorate until 1861 when the Franco-Monegasque Treaty established its independence but it remained under the guardianship of France.Monacos first constitution was put into effect in 1911 and in 1918 it signed a treaty with France which stated that its government would support French military, political and economic interests and that if the Grimaldi dynasty (which still controlled Monaco at the time) were to die out, the country would remain independent but be under French protection.Throughout the mid 1900s, Monaco was controlled by Prince Rainier III (who took over the throne on May 9, 1949). Prince Rainier is most famous for his marriage to American actress Grace Kelly in 1956 who was killed in a car accident near Monte Carlo in 1982.In 1962, Monaco established a new constitution and in 1993 it became a member of the United Nations. This paper also contains a conclusion, which is a summary of the major points contained in it. This paper takes a stand that there are a variety of factors responsible for the air accident involving the Zonk aircraft. These factors range from poor weather conditions, the inefficiency of the pilot, and poor management from the company. One of the causes that are given for the fatal air accident is the inefficiency of the new pilot, which was brought about because of lack of experience and inadequate training. The pilot was new hired, and he had done a total of 300 hours in flight. Of these 300 hours, the pilot had done 50 hours on twin engine air craftââ¬â¢s, and only 15 hours on the air a model of PA 31 (Weil, 2012). Furthermore, the pilot did not have sufficient training on meteorological conditions. He only had some 5 hours of such kind of training (Weil, 2012). Furthermore, before the accident, the pilot had only flown some three air craftââ¬â¢s for the Zonk Company, and before flying the aircraft, he did not fly for the company for a period of 10 days. This is an indication that the pilot was not experienced and qualified enough to handle this aircraft. Because of inadequate training in meteorology, the pilot was unable to navigate in the harsh weather conditions. And the management is also to blame because they allowed an inexperienced pilot to fly such kind of a plane. This paper will prove the assertion that happiness can be improved by choice both from the individual and institutional level. Some have equated happiness with popularity, while others have equated it with wealth. In either case a few could have confirmed some sense of similarity in equating the dissimilar terms. Well one could argue that it is very hard to prove the experience because it is personal. This paper treats happiness that is something measurable and hence can be improved in degrees. Precisely a person committing a suicide is not happy while a person that can handle his or emotional problems are a happy one. This paperââ¬â¢s thesis therefore means that improving the level of happiness is actually helping people to have a better feeling of well being and less likely to be persons who will succumb to suicide. Schwart argues for the importance of value of choice for a person to be happy. The author explained that freedom to choose has what might be called expressive value and that choice enables one to tell the world who he or she is and what he or she cares about. To improve happiness one must be free and having that knowledge that one is free, that person must exercise the power of choice of to be happy. Happiness is a choice from the time a person wakes up in the morning until he lays his or her head at night to sleep and the same choice must again be practice the same day. For what is freedom if not deliberately used? The power to express oneself is one of manââ¬â¢s basic rights that are universally recognized. If one would like to trace the fall of the communist ideology, one would find that the limitation on the power to express oneself might have been one of the causes of its downfall. One would remember the 1989 suppression of the then Chinese government of the demonstrators on Chinese Square. The students were shouting for more freedom. They were willing to die in the name of freedom. Could the acts of the students be not taken also as dying for happiness if freedom has the objective of happiness? The right of freedom to self expression could even be above the right of government official to privacy for what a personââ¬â¢s right of expression could be used to criticize the act of a public official in democratic countries. Remove freedom to express, then you remove happiness. Remove happiness, then you remove meaning, then you remove life. Since happiness is one of the main objects of life, governments must be right in recognizing its availability by the exercise of freedom by recognizing the right in the constitutions although inherently the right might have existed without need or expressly recognizing the same. Organizations whether profit or non profit defines its goals in terms of missions and visions. These missions and visions are directions where organizations want to go. If analyzed further, these missions are actually purposes or meanings which in substance could be equated to happiness. It could thus be argued that institutions including government and other organizations are institutionalizing the right to happiness in terms of laws and policies which are indications of decisions to improve the level of happiness of individuals. To further support the thesis of this paper, Seligman argues that people who are impoverished, depressed, or suicidal care about much more that just the relief of their suffering. He explained that these persons care ââ¬âsometimes desperately- about virtue, about purpose, about integrity and meaning. For these people, experiences that induce positive emotion cause negative emotion to dissipate rapidly. Seligmanââ¬â¢s conception of meaning and purpose confirms the organizations setting their missions and visions are their guides for survival. It is in this regard that Seligman espouses Positive psychology. He observed that the strengths and virtues function to buffer against misfortune and against the psychological disorders, and they may be the key to building resilience. Thus he stated that the best therapists do not heal damage, they help people identify to build their strengths and virtues. Seligmanââ¬â¢s Positive Psychology therefore promises to take one through the countryside of pleasure and gratification, up into the high country of the strength and virtue, and finally to the peaks of lasting fulfillment: meaning and purpose. Positive psychology reinforce thesis of this paper that more than curing the psychological disorders, psychology which is a science could be applied to make a choice, a choice for a brighter outlook. Although Seligman acknowledges personal circumstance to be a factor in determining happiness, it does not contradict the power of choice. This choice explains why more people are successful than other who does not have the right attitude. A philosopher once said that attitude is everything. What he really means is that attitude is a choice in the same way that happiness is a choice. Being therefore a choice, its improvement and enjoyment could also be a choice. Conclusion: This paper has proven what its has argued that happiness can be improved by choice both from the individual and institutional level. As man is free to choose so he or she must be free to choose to be happy. From the individual level man will seek to express him or self to other via many means from the performance of arts and even in these daily activities in work. In the institutional level, this paper also found evidence of choice for freedom to self expression that was inserted in many of the constitutions of many nations in the world. This world of hopeful people will continue to survive many challenges because of the power of humanity to determine their destiny, which essentially in reduced form, is actually happiness. He was famous for being a well-known American serial killer. Bundy murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s. He is said to have murdered 36 young women and girls that have spanned across four states. The biggest question in anyoneââ¬â¢s mind would be why would such a person do something so heinous and horrendous? According to psychologists Bundyââ¬â¢s to have had multiple theories on his motive. This essay will look at two of those theories which are Necrophilia, and Antisocial Personality Disorder. The first theory is that Bundy was driven to kill in order to satisfy his urge to have sex with dead bodies. The second theory is that he had antisocial personality disorder which devoids this person from feeling a lack of remorse or guilt. Theory one suggests that Bundy was a necrophiliac. That is, he was someone who needed to have sex with dead bodies in order to fulfill a deep urge. According to Dr. Robert Keppel a psychologist who interviewed Bundy, ââ¬Å"It was the one part of his criminal behavior that truly embarrassed him because, as ugly as it was, it satisfied him sexuallyâ⬠. Serial killers get pleasure from different elements of a murder (Keppel, 2010). ââ¬Å"All of Bundyââ¬â¢s lures, traps, and murders all came secondary to his sexual satisfactions at having a dumpsite where his victims would wait for him in silent decayâ⬠. Bundy would feign an injury, to help attract young women to help him to his car. Once the women were by his car, thatââ¬â¢s when he would make his move of attacking the women and rendering them unconscious (Hinchliffe, 2011). In one instance Bundy seized a young girl and took her into a wooded area where he intended to rape and release her but ended ... ...RESSION OR ANGER; THEY ARE TRYING TO FILL AN EMPTINESS IN THEIR SOULS: [Final Edition].
